Hi, I am tired of wordpress and its problems. I’m going to give ol’ blogspot a try. Still working on formatting and all that, and probably not all the links that should be up are up over there. Don’t worry it’s all getting figured out. In the meantime you can read one of the only things I’ll ever post about politics. It’s mostly quotes. I’ll keep this old one around for archiving purposes or whatever. OK, bye.

I am moving to Arizona and I am making some bad decisions

9 October, 2009

My sister can now officially practice law (lawyering) in the state of Arizona!!! Congratulations Megan (obviously the smartest Holbrook)!

well here is a list

9 October, 2009

With wavering confidence, here are things I have been doing lately…

  • Preparing (or maybe putting off preparing) for Junior Reviews in a scant couple weeks
  • Prepping a music video for Where Astronauts Go To Hide
  • Talking about prepping another short film
  • Trying to prep other things, but not really prepping them
  • Watching Glee
  • Downloading mash-ups daily
  • Picking every movie
  • I bought The ‘burbs and Can’t Hardly Wait at Half-Price Books. Joe Dante marathon should be in the works. Both Gremlins, The ‘burbs, and maybe Piranha or something.
  • Watching Stand By Me and crying
  • Learning about lots of things
  • Thinking about lots of things
  • Um and stuff, yeah.
  • Going to the Como Zoo & Conservatory, having a heart attack over how cute their sloth is, looking at pictures of cute animals forever
  • Almost my entire family is in Chicago right now, but I am not. Bittersweet!
  • Writing scripts
  • Thinking about writing scripts
  • Trying to listen to all of music at the same time
  • being alive
  • making too many jokes about being dead
  • but they’re just jokes I feel great!

Give it to Someone Else: A Friendfilm

30 September, 2009

Man of the Year Ned Hurley has an ongoing project called Friendfilms. He takes a track from the Residents’ Commercial Album (which consists of 40 one-minute “jingles”) and makes a music video of it, co-produced by and starring a friend. Thus marks the second Hurlbrook production, a one-minute video for “Give it to Someone Else.” Enjoy.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that last Friday marked the final strip of John Allison’s amazing comic, Scary Go Round. However, I must stress, John Allison is still making comics. If you ever looked at Scary Go Round’s archives and thought, “Boy that’s a lot of content to get through, and I really won’t be able to understand the current strips without reading the archive,” then now is the time to read Bad Machinery! Apparently, for early fans, there is some continuation from Scary Go Round into Bad Machinery, but Allison’s goal was also to make his work accessible again. This strip just started. There are no archives. There is no back material to read to understand what’s happening. And it’s awesome. Read it!

And if you’ve ever got the time to devote, the Scary Go Round archives are still there. And they’re not going anywhere. Since they’re no longer growing, you can tackle them at any time and any pace you wish, so if you’re at all inclined to you should still read all of that too.

Scary Go Round is dead! Long live Bad Machinery!

found my purpose in life, no big deal

I have just been called: “The Jesus Of Candy.”

But really, I’m OK

8 September, 2009

Because of malfunctioning sensors, I now get a wave of paranoia every single time I enter and exit the MCAD library.

Countless scenarios fly through my head, wherein I am accused of trying to steal a book, thoroughly searched, and never really trusted again. And the sensor’s going off is so inexplicable that I myself start to believe I was trying to steal things from the library. It was such a subconscious urge, an uncontrollable kleptomania that I did it without realizing, which would mean that no matter how hard I try, deep down in my core I am such a bad person that it is out of my control.

But instead the librarian just says, “Don’t worry about it,” and waves me through.

I have always celebrated Trachimday

5 August, 2009

Welp, I’m in Minneapolis now! I’m going back to Colorado for a few days next week but I’m pretty much back. Peter, Charlotte and I have spent the past few days moving everything in, and boy is the place starting to look really nice!

My bedroom is tiny, but I can fit a bed in it, plus I get my own office so it evens out I think!

Anyways, if you’re in Minneapolis right now we should totally hang out! I don’t have internet yet (I have to visit MCAD to get it), but you should totally call me, or leave me a message on facebook or an e-mail or however it is you feel like communicating. There are so many options!

When I drove down here I listened to Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer on tape, because Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was so good so I wanted to read more of that kind of thing. It was a great book! Part of the story’s plot revolves around an (I think) fake holiday called Trachimday, which is also totally my birthday! So like a third of the book happens on my birthday, and I think that is neat.

Also, you guys. Darkman (go here and watch the second video down – you can read the article too if you want, but you HAVE to watch the video). Bahaha!

a decade

25 June, 2009

This summer is the ten year anniversary of me living in the United States. I hope someday to leave again, I remember when America was a scary foreign country with scary foreign ideas. Now it’s the other way around, weird!

let me paint the bullet out of your brain

17 May, 2009

I am in Colorado again, for a couple of months. Then gone. FOREVER. Well, I dunno. Probably not. I drove all the way here (which was about sixteen hours). I occupied myself by listening to Stephen King’s Duma Key.

I’ve still got a few hours left on the tape, so I’m not done with it. It’s pretty good so far. I’ve been a little worried about Stephen King because I wasn’t sure if he could ever write anything again after he finished his Dark Tower series. I also lost interest after the last Dark Tower because it was just so great. And this book, it isn’t mind-blowing or anything, but it’s interesting.

It’s a lot more interesting when, bored, you start imagining the main characters in the book being played by Bruce Willis and Luis Guzman.

I moved to Floridas mysterious Duma Key after my wife divorced me. Also, I am still recuperating from a horrible accident where I shattered my hip and lost an arm! Now I am developing strange, prophetic artistic abilities. My paintings can change reality! WHAAAAAAT

I live next door to Bruce in the mysterious Duma Key! I am the caretaker for an old lady who grew up here, and knows this places mysterious powers! Also, my wife and kid died a while ago and I totally shot myself! But the bullet didnt go through all the way and I miraculously survived! Now I have strange telepathic powers and get seizures all the time! WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT

Anyways it is pretty nice to be back. I want to write posts about music, maybe I will have time to. If you’re in Fort Collins I’ll see you soon I’m sure.
